IT'S A SMALL WORLD

«THE MASK AND THE CHILDHOOD» BY FABIANA BARREDA

Childhood is the place where

everything is born, the place to

which we return again and again,

to play our fantasies

Alice runs after the white rabbit and when her strange alter ego stops to look at the clock the cool and mysterious underground adventures begin, the world of childhood joins the world of fantasy as one.

Flor Godward’s work investigates that intense stage that always lives in artists like the wonderful universe of childhood.

Her works open the door to play, they open a conceptual territory where mystery and strength unfold in her characters. We are all those children dressed up for a circus or Halloween, looking at the camera inaugurating the rite of passage to an experience that through the mask will allow us to articulate our deepest dreams.

Jung spoke of the shadow of our creative unconscious, Freud, Lacan and contemporary art create from the powerful duality of worlds.
Karen Kilimnik, Marlene Dumas, Luc Tuymans, Gerar Richter, NeoRauch, Romulo Maccio remind us that painting the subject is a question about the other, about his soul.

Playful, rococo, Victorian, these paintings build a story, a short film in the style of David Lynch and his rabbit’s family, rabbit children, dolls, mystical communion dresses and golden showers create the show.

The quotes in the works five us an allegorical sense, the little one of Diane Arbus, the couple of children where the races come together lovingly creolized.

From a fairytale, Victorian and disturbing look, the portraits of famous children appear, each one recreating a question about the power and fragility of the human being, beauty, splendor, tears and laughter.

The shamanic animal masks, archetypes of fairy tales, tell us that childhood is wise, deep, unforgettable creators of our being today.

These works, in this new world to which we are reborn, take us to starry nights as in Tim Burton’s »Young Scissorhands», where magic opens its doors to go out and play, feel the pleasure of life, nights from Entre Ríos, hot nights of the warm sea of Miami, nights where we have that power that crowns being what our desire commands.
